Countering
the Conservative Spin
Due to popular demand we have created a list of Talking
Points to counter the Right's fallacious claims concerning
the recall of Governor Davis. One important item to remember,
however, is to never discuss Gray Davis's record. Instead,
either change the subject and blame GW Bush, Enron, Karl
Rove, etc. for California's problems, or if you're in
a real jam; call your adversary a bigot, nazi, racist,
and so on.
Gray Davis is costing Californians $70 million
a day in bigger deficits, so the cost of the recall is
actually a bargain.
- The recall is a threat to democracy.
Davis was elected fair and square.
- The estimated $100 million cost
of the recall will cause chaos throughout the state.
Children will die in the streets, schools will close
and cities will burn.
- Gray Davis has experience money
can't buy. You can't put a price on that.
Gray Davis is a corrupt
Governor who has put his office up for sale to the highest
bidder.
- All lies! Governor Davis is the
most ethical governor this state ever had.
- Let's get to the real issues behind
this right-wing led recall. These kind of questions
have no place in the recall debate.
- You shouldn't believe everything
you read in the right-wing press.
The effort to support the
Governor is funded mostly by unions who want to keep the
gravy train rolling.
- That's not true! Trial lawyers have
given loads of money to beat this draconian recall
too.
- I want you to meet some of my fellow
union members. Wait right here.
- You don't have to love Gray Davis
to think the recall is a bad idea.
The recall is a grassroots
revolt, not a partisan effort.
- That's what you think! Every one
of the 1.6 million signers of the recall petition
were paid by right-wing extremist Darrel Issa and
the Republican National Committee.
- Issa and his conservative cronies
spent nearly $2 million dollars financing the signature
gathering effort.
